Requiem Mass in D Minor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final Masterpiece was commissioned in mid 1791 by the Austrian count Franz Von Walsegg, as a Tribute to the passing of his young wife Anna. Mozart began his final composition in Prague, suffering from an undetermined illness, which would eventually take his life and rob him of the chance to see the completion of his Magnum Opus. After Mozart’s death, his understudy ‘Franz Xaver Süssmayr’, at the behest of Mozart’s wife, completed the missing parts of the Requiem. Requiem Mass was first performed on January 2, 1793, in a private concert for the benefit of Mozart’s grieving wife, Constanze Mozart. The Following are the lyrics, translated from their Original Latin Grant them eternal rest, Lord, and let perpetual light shine on them. You are praised, God, in Zion, and homage will be paid to You in Jerusalem. Hear my prayer, to You all flesh will come. Grant them eternal rest, Lord, and let perpetual light shine on them. Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Day of wrath, day of anger will dissolve the world in ashes, as foretold by David and the Sibyl. Great trembling there will be when the Judge descends from heaven to examine all things closely. The trumpet will send its wondrous sound throughout earth’s sepulchres and gather all before the throne. Death and nature will be astounded, when all creation rises again, to answer the judgment. A book will be brought forth, in which all will be …

Thomas Hill, “Yosemite Valley”
Image by Glenn Thomas Franco Simmons
My Great-Great-Grandfather Thomas Hill, for whom my middle name was named after, painted this oil-on-canvas landscape titled "Yosemite Valley," in 1889.

(My middle name isn’t Franco. It’s Thomas. Franco is my birth name; Simmons is my second Father’s last name, which I also adopted, as my first Father passed away when I was a young boy.)

It is displayed at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University in Palo Alto.

In his 1869 "My First Summer in the Sierra," John Muir reflected upon Yosemite:

"Perched like a fly on this Yosemite Dome, I gaze and sketch and bask, oftentimes settling down into dumb admiration without definite hope of ever learning much. …

"It is easier to feel than to realize, or in any way explain {Yosemite’s} grandeur. The magnitude of the rocks and trees and streams are so delicately harmonized they are mostly hidden.

"Sheer precipices three thousand feet high are fringed with tall trees growing close like grass on the brow of a lowland hill, and extending along the feet of these precipices a ribbon of meadow a mile wide and seven or eight long, that seems like a strip a farmer might mow in less than a day.

"Waterfalls, five hundred to one or two thousand feet high, are so subordinated to the mighty cliffs over which they pour that they seem like wisps of smoke, gentle as floating clouds, though their voices fill the valley and make rocks tremble."

The longest version of ‘You Know My Name’ I found, coupled with more or less rare footage from the Beatles. Recorded while ‘Sgt. Pepper’, released in 1970. After McCartney, Evans and Lennon added some extra vocals in 1969, Lennon planed to release (with ‘…Mary Jane’) it as a Plastic Ono single (heavily edited by himself), but the other Beatles prevented it. Even on Anthology there are some parts of the song missing.

Between a Hollywood superstar and a voice actor, the latter actually works harder. It’s real challenging for him to show feelings and emotions while reading, fully knowing that he will not be seen on the screen. The voice actor must be able to empathize with the persona that he portrays and make sure that he breathes life into the script. This is where voice over training comes into play.

Voice over artists are able to master the craft of voice acting and find good employment in this field by going through voice over training. Thousands of animated TV shows, cartoons, radio advertisements, web shows and movies are produced on a regular basis. Take note that about 20 to 30 characters make up the cast of just one movie or TV show. There are global opportunities galore for a voice actor.

Basic skills required to join a voice over training course

Diction is one of the most vital tools of the trade. The student must have perfect enunciation and therefore must attend speech classes to get his diction right. Every voice over actor has two roles to fulfill – “lending voice” and “acting.” So, perfect diction is not enough to start voice over training – the student must also enroll in an acting course before joining the voice over course.

What does a voiceover training program teach?

Assessing and interpreting commercial copy for announcer and real-person roles are learned by the student. He also learns how to interpret narrative copy and gets the hang of technical copy as well. The course educates the student how to efficiently coordinate mind, mouth and voice so that he can sound true to his character. Taking direction is also learned by the student.

Reading, recording, play back, and listening are done continuously in an excellent voice talent training course. This is done in order for students to get it right. Students learn techniques such as inflection, timing and articulation. They perform warm-ups and vocal exercises as well. They figure out how to maintain their vocal health. When students are already half-way into the voice over training program, they become competent at using and adjusting pitch, tone, volume and delivery speed to meet the needs of numerous types of jobs.

After the main training is over, students learn how to market their skills, tap the appropriate contacts, and get voice over work. Instructors of the voice over course also help them in creating a voice over demo, which would become part of their portfolio. A solid voice over training course gives students the opportunity to work in a real studio and understand what they must and shouldn’t do in a sound booth and when behind the microphone.

Selecting a voice over training course

There are two facets to voice training. Students who are attracted in selling must opt for a commercial voice over course. Commercial voice overs are used for selling. TV advertisements, radio ads, phone and other media feature these voice overs. Selling skills are also covered by a voice over course considering that all commercial voice overs sell a service or a product. This course does not include acting skills. If a student is fascinated in showbiz, then he should opt for dubbing and a movie or TV voice over course. Lip-synching is needed by such courses, hence, the voice over talent also needs to master acting skills.

To conclude, all the world’s a stage and we must play a part. So if you would like to be a voice actor, and you want to learn how to improve your voice, better enroll in a reputable voice actor training course.
